Work Hours/Shift:Full Time Nights

You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Primary: Accurately interprets rhythm, rate and morphology of strips.
    • Enters patient data into cardiac monitoring system, assures location of patient and monitor coincide.
    • Prepares and maintains patient record from admission to discharge through documentation of rhythm strips at predetermined intervals and with each change in rhythm.
      • Communicates changes in cardiac rhythm, rate or morphology promptly to the primary care nurse and/or charge nurse.
      • Recognizes need for and initiates Rapid Response / Code Blue timely and accurately.
      • Maintains responsibility for monitoring equipment Manages unit supplies, activities, time, and other resources in a cost effective manner to reduce waste and unnecessary expenditures.
      • Follows infection control standards with telemetry packs.
      • Assures telemetry hardware is cleaned and returned to assigned location.
      • Remains at the Telemetry monitoring station at all times unless handoff completed to another qualified staff member who assumes coverage with primary responsibility for telemetry monitoring duties.
  • Secondary: Prepares and maintains patients medical records from admission through discharge to organization, completeness and accuracy of the records system for the unit
    • Assembles, accurately labels and maintains the physical patient chart.
    • Serves as a liaison between patients/families, staff and the medical staff.
    • Demonstrates techniques of receiving and directing patients and visitors, answering routine inquiries and processing referrals/consults.
    • Maintains the unit census record up-to-date including admissions, transfers and discharges.
    • Informs bed manager of bed availability and facilitates patient flow.
    • Accurately reconciles the unit midnight census including verification of bed accommodation codes.
    • Maintains downtime forms and downtime chart packets. Efficiently performs tasks required in preparation for scheduled downtime. Supports staff activities during downtime to assure accurate and timely documentation. Prepares downtime forms for scanning after each downtime.
  • Secondary: Monitors physician orders to assist medical/nursing staff to assure prompt, efficient timely care of all patients.
  • Consistently uses the Patient Access List (PAL) or the Tracking Shell to monitor, and when appropriate, process physician orders. Informs the responsible nurse of new and / or STAT orders.

    • Accurately processes physician consult requests, schedules requested procedures and secures needed equipment.
    • Demonstrate phone etiquette at all times.
  • Tertiary: Manages unit supplies, activities, time and other resources in cost effective manner to reduce waste
    • Places repair requests using the web-based request form. Follows-up on outstanding requests.
    • Responds to electronic temperature monitoring alarms. Records action and follow up within the electronic system.
    • Maintains all unit supplies in an organized manner. Performs inventories and requisitions necessary supplies for nursing unit including office supplies, forms and non-stock patient care supplies within established par levels. Keeps the department manager informed of back orders.
  • Secondary: Maintains accurate focus on communication.
    • Demonstrates effective communication skills, patience, and the ability to explain information to others.
    • Assists with development and participates in Performance Improvements process and data collection.
    • Communicates and implements changes in policies/procedures.
    • Communicates, collects, and reports accurate patient care data to the appropriate team members.
    • Responds to patient call lights in a courteous manner within three rings and informs the responsible caregiver of patient s requests.
    • Participates as part of the multidisciplinary care team as directed.
  • Secondary: Maintains current clinical, technical and professional competencies.

    • Accepts responsibility for one s own actions by initiating the incident report mechanisms
    • Attends a minimum of 75% of scheduled staff meetings annually.
    • Attends mandatory hospital in-services annually.
    • Complies with departmental, divisional and hospital policies and standards.
    • Demonstrates awareness of the rising costs of healthcare and implements budgetary containment measures.
    • Maintains equipment in its proper working condition; identifies malfunctioning equipment and takes appropriate action.
    • Seeks and accepts constructive criticism and implements actions designed for self-improvement.
    • Assists in the organization and operations of the unit via guidelines, policy, and procedures.
    • Performs ordered 12-lead electrocardiogram as directed by RN (Emergency Department only, and after coverage obtained by qualified staff member for primary responsibility of telemetry monitoring)
    Tertiary: Other Duties as assigned. QualificationsWhat You Will Need:
    • BLS -condition of employment
    • CPI within 6 months of employment (Emergency Department and Behavioral Health Units only)
    • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent
    • Prior completion of Basic EKG course with passing certificate / or certificate of completion prior to end of 90-day orientation
    Job Summary:

    The Unit Clerk / Telemetry technician is a dual function position with the Primary responsibility to observe cardiac rhythms using a central monitoring system and the prompt reporting changes in cardiac rhythm to primary nurse and/or charge nurse. Secondarily, this position provides secretarial duties for the smooth running of the assigned patient care unit in accordance with the Hospitals' mission, physicians and patient expectations.
